Original Christmas card sent by stage and film actress Minna Gombell (1892-1973) circa 1938. The card pictures Gombell in nautical attire smartly saluting from the back of her boat which was routinely launched from her San Diego home, shared with her banker husband Joseph Sefton. In white facsimile signature, "Merry Xmas Minna Gombell."
Card measures 3 1/2 x 6 inches, made of thick paper stock and in matte finish. In near mint, unused condition.
Gombell's film credits include such gems as Block-Heads (1938), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1939), Boom Town (1940), High Sierra (1941), The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), et al.
This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer.
Minna had sent these cards to her fan club president, Chaw Mank, for distribution to club members. You just don't see these cards from the Great Depression era today.
