Original, authentically handwritten and signed postcard from stage, film and television actress Marjorie Main (1890-1975).

Main is best known for her continuing role as Ma Kettle in the Ma and Pa Kettle movie franchise. She first played Ma Kettle in The Egg and I (1947) opposite Percy Kilbride, earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Her other films include A House Divided (1931), Dead End (1937), Penitentiary (1938), Another Thin Man (1939), Dark Command (1940), The Shepherd of the Hills (1941), Heaven Can Wait (1943), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), The Harvey Girls (1946), Ma and Pa Kettle (1949), Ma and Pa Kettle at the Fair (1952), The Long, Long Trailer (1954), Friendly Persuasion (1956), et al. She is interred at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles.

Entire postcard, including address, is handwritten by Main. It reads: "April 12, 1939. Mr. Chaw Mank, Staunton, Illinois. My dear Chaw: You might be interested in seeing what Gene Schroff has to say about 'Mothers of the Movies' in May issue of Modern Movies. Sincerely yours Marjorie Main." Postcard is postmarked Los Angeles, Calif., Apr. 11, 1939.

Postcard is in excellent condition with no creases. A small light brown rubber band stain runs vertically on the right side of the card. Absolutely no doubt as to authenticity and provenance.

This item comes directly from the estate of Charles "Chaw" Mank Jr. (1902-1985), noted songwriter, author, bandleader, record producer, sheet music publisher, psychic, radio personality, silent movie theater organist, world champion pen pal, inveterate collector and Hollywood/music fan club pioneer. Mr. Mank was a friend of Marjorie Main's and was instrumental in her fan club.
